temperatures low-to-mid 40's for lunch, and during the afternoon hours you will hit the upper 50's to mid-60's and mild during the evening hours, mid-to-upper 40's with a lot of stars to be seen over the ocean, a beautiful sight. kristen and eric have the news. >> new this morning the most rabid apple fans are in san francisco for the start of mac world in a few hours and abc7 news reporter is live at mascone center where hollywood is represented, as well. >> cornell? >> you could call this the super bowl of technology with the rabid following. the doors will open to mac world at mascone center, called the ultimate i-fan event with lots of star power this year. it is one of san francisco's biggest trade shows, of course, with 30,000 people attending this year. apple is no longer associated with mac world since 2009 but there is the next best thing.

investigators retrace the steps of a san francisco man suspected in the kevin collins missing pens case. the ten-year-old was last seen in 1984 leaving basketball practice in haight-ashbury area. the man police are investigating lived just blocks away at a duplex on masonic avenue. he is dead now. on tuesday they dug up the basement looking for evidence and found bones now thought to be that of an animal. investigators flew to animal to interview a man who lived with kelly. he said he knew of no connection between kelly and kevin collins. >> now the 49ers are about to hold the daily media event in new orleans where the quaterback culliver will talk about controversial antigay comments he made this week. but, first, how the parents of

mike? >> good morning. we will look at live doppler 7 hd from new orleans, notice how quiet it is. yesterday we tracked severe weather, temperature now is 34 in new orleans which is exceptionally cold for them. almost like if san francisco was 34 right now. through the weekend temperatures hit the low-to-mid 60's and humidity coming up with lows in the mid 40's. at home, mid-to-upper 60's with sunshine. moving forward today and tomorrow, we will have our warmest afternoons and we will get near 70 away from the coast and low-to-mid 60's with a few more clouds saturday and sunday. have a great day. >> new this morning, the japanese airline that grounded boeing 787 dreamliner flights from san jose and around the world say they are losing millions. we captured the arrival of the

a tenant is afraid for his safety. the board says he is 110 resident whose reported the microwaves that started on their own and in one case, caused electrical problems. >> i feel unsafe when i hear other stories of the sparking being so intense that it sounded similar to fireworks. >> this is the aftermath of a fire in a florida home that started in a microwave not in use according to the official report. both incidents reported involved the same microwave kitchen aid model. consumer reports looked at thousands of pages of documents and the investigation of a appliance fires including many obtained through the freedom of information act. 41 of the reports involved kitchen aid microwaves that turned on by themselves some causing fires.

consumer reports examined 82 similar reports involving g.e., six involved serious fires. >> the reports listed various models but 30 involved the space maker line of over the range microwave. none of them have been recalled. the problem is, not limited to these two manufacturers. the consumer products safety commission told consumer reports they have an open investigation into the safety of kitchen appliances including microwaves. if you have a problem with your microwave unplug it and get a technician to look at it. it is a good idea to know, which circuit breaker towns off the microwave in case of an emergency. >> that was michael finney reporting. whirl pool says they have not been able to verify a single report of a self starting microwave and general electric

francisco, and now monterey bay, upper 30's to low 40's. the warmth is at the height today and tomorrow. but we it will still be pleasant to be outside and a chance of rain not forecast next week. santa rosa and oakland the same as yesterday, san jose, hayward, concord, one to five degrees warmer. where does that put us? mid-to-upper 60's in santa rosa, napa, fremont, 69, the warm spots and san francisco and richmond and concord and san jose. headed to monterey bay and underland, everyone in the upper 60's to low 70's with total sunshine. tonight, the temperatures are mid-30's to low 40's inland and not as frosty as this o around napa or as foggy and san francisco is warmer at 49 degrees. high pressure is dominating our weather and kink up to the north

>> we are back at 6:24 this morning and we will start with our forecast for here in san francisco and the bay area as we will have 35 to 45 and cooler this morning. low-to-upper 60's as the warmth builds. if irtraveling around the state we will have mid-60's through the central valley and upper 60's in big sur and low-to-mid 70's in southern california. >> new this morning, the number of people applying to the law schools is headed for 30-year low. "new york times" reports as of this month, only 30,000 people nationwide have applied to law

schools for the fall, that is a 20 percent decrease great last year and a 38 percent decrease from 2010. the numbers hold up there will only be 54,000 law school applicants compared to 2004 when there were 100,000 applicants which is tied to concern over rising student debt and tuition and the tough job market. >> tomorrow, john kerry is sworn in as secretary of state and supreme court will administer the oath. the state department says that justice kagan will care in john kerry. they are friends and kagan is from massachusetts where he is the senior senator. he is replacing hillary clinton. >> the largest retailer will limit ammunition sales because they are running low on supplies. walmart aid they will limit customers to three boxes of ammunition a day. nationwide the sales have jumped since the tragedy in connecticut

on. >> the backup, and an estimate of when it could clear. amy? >> they hope to have this cleared up in the next hour. they have a long "to do" list but they think they can complete it in an hour. if this is proving you can exist with just two lanes. traffic is moving. this is northbound 101 in sunnyvale at fair oaks exit but it is slower than usual. if you are leashing in in -- leaving in the next half, plan for this, you will not move as quickly as usual. a big rig overturned. he was cut off by a car he said. he did not overturn, he hit the guardrail and it punctureed his fuel tank. then he started leaking fuel on the highway and they had to lean that up. then they have to drain the fuel from the tank, the remaining fuel, they have to drain it before they can move the truck. check this out, we have an issue

going here, the officer is right out there in the middle and stopping traffic. some trucks are coming through. this is what you have to plan for. be alert on your ride this morning northbound 101 because do you not know when something like this could happen, you could just be stopped suddenly. lots of people are on the highway to watch for. everyone has on safety vests but it could be very dangerous. a lot to look for. the road is a mess. they still have to clean it up. they have a lot to do. they think they can get it done in an hour. the driver is okay, but just minor cuts and bruises. reporting live in sunnyvale for abc7 news. >> thanks, amy. >> the christ has got were worse, now, on highway 101. >> we have this live shot as you heard, amy saying that the backup is horrendous and they

and traffic backing to the macarthur maze. that is the traffic. mr. mike has the weather. >> it seems busy compared to here. but live doppler 7 hd shows a quiet commute weather-wise as the winds are blowing offshore with the clouds away from us. we still have dense fog in the north bay valley. 40 to 45, with cool conditions, and we will be in the low-to-upper 50's by lunch and low-to-mid 60's for most of the afternoon. as you head inland, other than the minor fog we have 32 to 42 to start and mid-to-upper 50's for lunch and low to minority 60's for the afternoon. at the coast it is cooler and calmer, and 37 to 41 and light to mid-50's and in the afternoon, upper 50's to mid-60's so warmer than yesterday, and everyone will be in the upper 40's to low 50's during the evening hours with a clear and rain-free sky.

>> new this morning, san francisco archbishop is causing a stir with comments he made about same-sex marriage. according to the huffington post, he told the catholic herald the term gay marriage is a natural impossibility and should rarely be used saying legislating for the right of people of the same sex to be married is like legalizing male breast feeding and told the catholic newspaper that fighting to protect traditional marriage is god's gift for this generation. >> this morning, culliver will speak publicly about controversial antigay remarks he made to a radio radio shock job include that he did not want gay players on the team. culliver issued his own

>> we are back and looking at radar from new orleans. yesterday at this time severe weather headed toward new orleans with heavy rain, but not the case today. it is 39 there this morning. we will see the morning lows reach into the upper 40's this week as the humidity returns but the afternoon will be mid-60's and sunny. at home, we do not have the humidity and mid-to-upper 60's with total sunshine. a few areas could even touch 70. now, how long does it last? today and tomorrow are the warmest afternoons and the wind shifts and we cool to the low-to-mid 60's with a few more clouds on saturday and sunday. a delightful time to be outside. sue? >> nasty commute northbound 101 from 87 north for sunnyvale with a big rig accident.

in the backup of that we have another accident. traffic is now jammed. this is quite a long delay moving northbound. take 280, 85 or caltrain. beyond the h.p. pavilion there is a brand new accident just reported and traffic now is bumper to bumper northbound 87 moving toward 101 beyond the pavilion and a major bart delay over 30 minutes from the daly city line because of equipment problems. >> registered nurses are planning a protest and rally in vallejo saying prior to a one day strike at nine hospitals on christmas eve, officials threatened nurses with discipline if they walked out. they say sutter sent warning letters to nurses with the day off. the california nurses association has filed a formal

the south bay. the san jose mercury news reports that ford will attend the film festival in san jose on march 3 where he will receive the maverick spirit award and take part in a conversation with the wife of the california lt. governor and former san francisco mayor. ford is known for the roles as indiana jones. >> doctors in england are reporting a disturbing new trend involving kate middleton. plastic surgeons are getting requests from women to look like the duchess. the number of women ask dog -- asking to have her nose have tripled since 2011. she always looks happy and confident in photos. is the "r" word rebound or recession? >> now over to jane king from bloomberg and the new york storm >> the dow and s&p are close to all-time highs yesterday we got a report that the economy shrank last quarter so which direction are we moving in economists at j.p. morgan chase and morgan stanley say the economy will rebound after plunging defense spending hurt and the chief economist at middle east analysts say the growing strength in the labor market will light a fire under growth. we will see how the market is this morning. weekly jobless claim numbers were worse-than-expected so still the markets are optimistic and trading higher. the silicon valley index is positive. facebook shares are lower, disappointing investors with the latest earning reports.
